What This Means for You
This chapter isn't here to depress you, although it probably has. It's here to make sure you understand that brewery closure is not a rare, unlucky outcome. It is the most common outcome. The majority of new breweries fail. The ones that survive often wish they hadn't bothered. And the ones that look successful from the outside are frequently one bad quarter away from joining this list.
If you open a brewery, you are betting — with real money, often your life savings — that you will be the exception. That you'll navigate a saturated market, survive external shocks, manage costs that are rising faster than your revenue, and build something sustainable in an industry where the odds are stacked against you.
Some people do beat those odds. This book isn't saying it's impossible. It's saying that the list of people who tried and failed is very, very long — and getting longer every week.
