Chapter 7: Staffing Nightmares
When you started designing recipes, were you thinking about employment law? Were you picturing yourself sat at a kitchen table at midnight trying to work out PAYE thresholds, or rehearsing how to tell someone their work isn't good enough? Of course you weren't. You were thinking about hop profiles and mash temperatures and what to call your pale ale.
But if you can't handle everything alone — and you can't, not indefinitely — then this is exactly what you'll have to deal with. People. Real, complicated, sometimes difficult people, with their quirks and differences and bad days. And somehow you have to make them work together as a team, even if you've never managed anyone in your life and couldn't delegate a task if your business depended on it. Which, as it happens, it does.
